Crafted with love. Delivered with joy. Shared from the heart;
Bringing hope and holiday cheer to seniors, one ornament at a time.
What is our mission? 🤷🤷♀️
The Christmas Kindness Project: Crafting Joy for Seniors believes that no senior should feel forgotten during the holidays. Through handmade ornaments created with care and delivered with love, the project brings hope, joy, and the warmth of human connection to elderly residents in nursing homes and homebound seniors. Every ornament is a reminder that someone cares and that the spirit of kindness can brighten even the loneliest season.
Every year, The Christmas Kindness Project: Crafting Joy for Seniors works tirelessly to bring holiday cheer to elderly individuals who may feel forgotten during the Christmas season. From January through November, founder Ren carefully creates, wraps, and prepares hundreds of handmade ornaments, each crafted with attention and heart.
Delivered by December 5th to local nursing homes in the Belton, Missouri area — and eventually expanding to the greater Kansas City Metro — each ornament is a tangible expression of love, care, and festive joy. This is a project fueled entirely by donations, personal dedication, and a desire to make the holidays brighter for seniors who deserve to be remembered.
Who are we and why are we doing this?
Founded in 2023 by Ren, The Christmas Kindness Project: Crafting Joy for Seniors was born from a simple yet powerful idea: no senior should feel forgotten during the holidays. Inspired by childhood memories of visiting nursing homes with her Blue Birds group, performing songs, and sharing handmade crafts with elderly residents, Ren carries forward a family tradition of spreading kindness and joy.
The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the urgency of this mission, as so many seniors in nursing homes were left isolated from loved ones. Ren, not a nurse or medical professional but a passionate crafter, knew she could make a difference in the way she knew best: through handmade ornaments filled with love.
Each ornament is thoughtfully crafted, wrapped, and tagged with a QR code linking to the project’s website. Surprise deliveries are made to residents, bringing hope and the reminder that someone cares. The project is entirely free for recipients and is powered by donations, streaming revenue, and Ren’s personal dedication.
My Vision
The Christmas Kindness Project dreams of expanding across the Kansas City Metro area, reaching more nursing homes and homebound seniors. Future goals include hosting crafting workshops, creating a donation center for handmade ornaments and supplies, and growing into a fully registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The ultimate aim is a community of volunteers and supporters — “fairy godmothers” of kindness — helping spread love and holiday joy far and wide.
How this project works.
Step 1: Creating the Ornaments 🦌❄️🌟
From January through November, Ren carefully designs and handcrafts ornaments. Each year features a different type of craft — from diamond paintings to beaded ornaments to sewn creations — chosen for creativity and heart. Handmade packaging ensures easy opening for residents, and a QR code connects recipients to the project’s website.
Step 2: Preparing for Delivery 🎁
Once completed, each ornament is wrapped individually with care and arranged for safe delivery. Every detail is thoughtfully considered to ensure seniors experience joy from the moment they receive their gift.
Step 3: Delivering the Joy ☕🍪🎅🕯️
By December 5th, ornaments are delivered to participating nursing homes. Staff members help distribute the ornaments to residents to ensure safety and accessibility. Each resident receives one ornament, starting with those in assisted-living units, followed by independent apartments if additional ornaments are available.
Step 4: Spreading Love & Hope ✨❄️☃️⛄
Each ornament serves as a reminder that someone cares, and that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference. Through The Christmas Kindness Project, seniors experience hope, love, and a tangible connection to their community.
Step 5: Growing the Project
Looking ahead, The Christmas Kindness Project envisions expanding to more locations, hosting crafting workshops, and welcoming volunteers to join in spreading handmade holiday joy across the Kansas City Metro area.
